Care for School Children at Lekòl Jezi-Mari

A remarkable journey began over thirty years ago in downtown Gros Morne when visionary leaders, Louis Etienne and M. Jean Desnor, recognized the urgent need for a school. Driven by a desire to make a difference, they established Lekòl Jezi-Mari (Jesus and Mary School) beneath a large hemp tree, starting with just six children.

In 2010, following a devastating earthquake, Mercy Focus on Haiti teamed up with the Religious of Jesus and Mary (RJM) Sisters who were already on the ground addressing the crisis. Our focus was primarily on food assistance and tuition support.

Because of you, hunger will not stand in the way of learning.

Because of you, the children at Lekòl Jezi-Mari will eat tomorrow.

Thanks to your generous donations, Mercy Focus on Haiti has played a vital role in the growth of Lekòl Jezi-Mari (now serving 645 children*) by providing eggs three days a week, daily hot lunches, and tuition assistance.

The school consists of 19 classrooms, serving students from preschool through 9th grade.

*Approximately 10% of Lekòl Jezi-Mari students this year are new to Gros Morne as families move north to escape the ongoing violence in Port-au-Prince.
